BIOGRAPHY

Canadian Angela McIntosh is an avid Plein Air painter and studio artist painting around the world in Canada, Mexico, China, France and Italy,  often favouring working  large even when outdoors.   She is from Penticton BC,  Canada where she maintains her Bear End Studio.    She has permanent residency in Mexico and spends her winters working in Puerto Vallarta  where she paints from life,  in her Studio351 on Amapas Street and has been  teaching her comprehensive 4 day workshop,  the Pillars of Painting, at Arte VallARTA.

McIntosh is passionate about preserving and restoring the environment and has painted the disappearing glaciers in northern Canada in Stewart BC at the southern tip of the Alaskan Panhandle for  18 years.   In 2022  she is focussing on habitat and wilderness preservation  in Puerto Vallarta and is working with the Puerto Vallarta Botanical Gardens on the launch of their 2023 Conservation project.

McIntosh has started free  Plein air painting groups in Penticton and Puerto Vallarta, encouraging others, including beginners,  to get out and make art, as well as free online resource pages on Facebook for outdoor painters as well as an international plein air painting workshop listing site on Facebook.

Angie’s work  has been found in galleries and shops in  Puerto Vallarta, Stewart, Terrace, Penticton, her Bear End and Puerto Vallarta studios.  Angie was invited to be in the  world’s largest museum which is online on Facebook, has work in museums in Kitimat and Stewart and online at www.Instagram.com/landscape.artist. Angie is an Active Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists.  She received a B.A. from UBC and studied to be a doctor.  She left her training pursue painting and in 1987 studied with renowned artists Yang Feiyun and Prof. Wei at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing China.  McIntosh has painted in watercolours and acrylics but now focuses on oils.  She paints impressionistic realism in the studio and en plein air wherever she travels or lives, including Canada, Mexico, Italy, France and China.  She started the Puerto Vallarta and the Penticton Plein Air Painters groups.  Angie teaches her Pillars of Painting Workshops in Mexico and Canada.  She spends her winters painting in Mexico, and summers painting in the glaciers of the North. In-between, McIntosh is working in the Okanagan.

In 2010, McIntosh was the Meadowlark Artist and exhibited at the Penticton Art Gallery.  She has participated in solo and group exhibits in Canada and Mexico since 1989.

In 2019, Angie McIntosh celebrated 15 Years Painting in the North with an Exhibit at her studio in Stewart, BC.

In 2021, McIntosh worked on a series of northern paintings for a summer solo exhibit ‘Visions of the North’ at the Kitimat Museum and Art Gallery in Canada, showing June 11 – July 24.  In 2022 Angie is working on a collection of art focussing on the Vallarta Botanical Gardens which will be used for the launch of their 2023 Conservation Campaign. Angie has seen the delicate connection between the health of our planet and the ecology of our biome.  She is working to increase awareness of this through the beauty of the landscapes of our North and the Southern tropical landscape.
